On increasingly crowded city streets, the quietness of electric vehicles has introduced new safety challenges. In response to this risk, major global markets have enacted mandatory regulations requiring vehicles to be equipped with an Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS). Our Super Horn is precisely the cutting-edge product born under this context. It not only effectively enhances road safety but is also designed from the outset to meet and exceed the stringent regulatory requirements in key markets such as China, Europe, and North America.
Electric vehicles must simultaneously comply with two separate sets of regulations: those for low-speed warning sounds (AVAS) and those for traditional electric horns. Through its highly integrated design, our Super Horn perfectly addresses both these challenges with a single compact unit:
China's GB/T 37153-2018 "Electric Vehicle Low-Speed Warning Sound": Ensures the vehicle emits a speed-correlated warning sound that complies with the national standard when starting, traveling below 20 km/h, or reversing.
USA's FMVSS 141 "Minimum Sound Requirements for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles": Meets all technical requirements of this standard regarding sound level, frequency, and their relationship to vehicle speed.
UN ECE R138 "Uniform Provisions Concerning the Approval of Quiet Road Vehicles": Provides regulatory access for entering the European market and other markets that recognize this regulation.
China's GB 15742-2019 "Performance Requirements and Test Methods for Motor Vehicle Horns": Its horn function fully meets the mandatory requirements of this standard for sound pressure level, durability, and performance.
UN ECE R28 "Uniform Provisions Concerning the Approval of Audible Warning Devices and Audible Warning Signals": Ensures the horn's audible signal complies with international standards, supporting the development of global vehicle platforms.
China's GB 7258-2017 "Safety Technical Specifications for Power-driven Vehicles Operating on Roads": As a fundamental requirement for vehicle safety technology, this standard has clear directives regarding audible warning devices, and our product design complies with its relevant clauses.
The Super Horn is a new high-end acoustic device independently developed by our company, successfully integrating the AVAS and the electric horn into a single unit.
Comprehensive Regulatory Coverage: A single product can help OEMs meet multiple critical domestic and international safety regulations, from AVAS to horn requirements, significantly simplifying vehicle type certification and compliance processes.
Assured Excellent Performance: The product not only meets the basic performance requirements for electric horns specified in GB 15742-2019 and ECE R28 but also pursues excellence in sound quality and reliability, ensuring effective warnings in any emergency situation.
Integrated Design: One device replaces two separate units, providing an optimal solution for compact front-end vehicle layouts while reducing supply chain management and production costs.
Regulations dictate not only the sound itself but also how installation position and orientation directly affect warning effectiveness, which in turn impacts compliance. Our professional installation guidelines are designed to ensure the product consistently delivers optimal and compliant performance:
Preferred Location and Heat Dissipation Distance: Recommended placement on front anti-collision beams, etc., ensuring a distance greater than 200mm from components like air conditioning radiators to prevent performance degradation due to thermal interference.
Critical Orientation: The sound emission surface must face forward or be angled downward to ensure sound is effectively directed towards pedestrians, avoiding non-compliance in sound pressure level testing due to incorrect orientation.
Unobstructed Sound Propagation: There must be no obstructions within 20mm in front of the sound emission holes. This is a crucial prerequisite for ensuring the acoustic frequency spectrum characteristics meet regulatory requirements.
Ground Clearance: Installation with a ground clearance greater than 350mm is recommended to prevent excessive sound absorption by the ground, ensuring the external sound level meets the levels specified by regulations.
Conclusion
From meeting GB/T 37153 and FMVSS 141 to ECE R138 and R28, our Super Horn is born for compliance and safety. It is not only a success in technological integration but also a powerful tool that assists our customers in efficiently addressing global market access challenges. We have already commenced mass production in collaboration with several clients, which strongly demonstrates the product's regulatory compliance and commercial value in practical applications. Looking ahead, we will continue to deepen our expertise and provide safer, more compliant, and smarter acoustic solutions for the global electric vehicle industry.
